Online exhibition from 04/15/2024 to 06/15/2024 -> ENTER THE ROOM
“Sweet Dreams”…have sweet dreams…so begins the song but also the sleep which plunges us daily into a dreamlike realm populated by images and visions…our desires and our demons…our crimes and our passions. The night, sometimes becomes a dream, sometimes a nightmare… It rests us as much as it agitates us!
We have to go back to where it all begins… a story that we tell. This virtual exhibition offers the possibility of a unique narration in large formats of contemporary Czech and Slovak art from the mid-20th century to the present day… a reading offered through several generations of major artists of the figurative movement and expressionist. A history of art which also follows the great history… that of countries which have experienced political torment and now shines across borders.
Jiří Načeradský, Michael Rittstein, Lubomír Typlt, Tomáš Jetela, Jan Gemrot, Eva Fajčíková…all in their own way have been pioneers in their pictorial expression. Between tradition and revolution, they have left their mark and continue to mark the artistic landscape with their unique and captivating imprint. It’s a never-ending dream… and a waking dream…
They have in common this audacity of shapes and colors, these games of hallucinations where bodies and thoughts mingle… sublimated by a technique that is both historical and contemporary. Freed from time and space, they cultivate an ambiguity, on the edge of reality and fiction… hypnagogic and hypnotic!
Rituals and vanitas… so many existential themes which make the spectator’s experience particularly immersive… like a dream state… where he comes to touch his own unconscious. Sweet dreams… these are the ones he sees on the canvas… and the ones he will still have with his eyes closed.
“Sweet dreams are made of this…”
